Through my work, I try to clarify my views on world events and culture, while aspiring to irony and humor. It's an egocentric exercise that's both therapeutic and entertaining. My art cheers me up though I make no claims for the impact of my art on others. The planet may not be habitable in another twenty years, governments are becoming increasingly fascist, attention spans are in decline, and the national business is war profiteering. New décor anyone?

I rely on traditional oil painting techniques. I call my style "Nihilist Frivolity" and hope it is engaging and provocative. –William Krüg

This painting was inspired by Rembrandt's "Susanna and the Elders, especially Simon Schama's commentary on it, and the "Me Too" movement. It depicts a vulnerable woman looking at the viewer, the male figure was derived from an Italian Fascist sculpture. Rembrandt's painting depicts only one "elder," it is assumed the other "elder," (voyeur), is the viewer. This painting also contains references to global warming, Surveillance Capitalism, and a thistle. According to the Penguin Dictionary of Symbols, thistles, "like all prickly plants...are a symbol of the protective belt defending the heart against external harm and attacks."
