I grew up in Northern California, surrounded by diverse natural landscapes. Memories of trips to the Sierra Nevadas have defined who I am. I find myself constantly searching for the same serenity found beneath those trees. I will always cherish the sweet silence in the woods as the fog beads on the sequoias. A silence full of soft sounds - the crinkle of leaves beneath my boots, the drilling of the white-headed woodpeckers, the cracking of the ponderosa pine branches. With my work, I intend to replicate those moments. I paint in memory of the lands that defined my being. Colors of western autumns and evergreen forests seep through each piece. As an homage to the arts and environments of the mountain towns I grew up around, refurbished wood is used to craft hand-cut, carved, and burned frames. Each work, a precious piece of California’s serene atmosphere - full of nostalgia, home, and the sun’s warmth as it rises over the foggy mountain ridges. –Liz Harper
