John Hrehov is primarily interested in the symbolic content of images, using objects and scenes familiar to him from his home and neighborhood. These settings along with the formal elements of value, texture, and form, especially symmetry, are combined to expresses Hrehov’s feelings about his surroundings. He see’s the often overlooked areas of life as being particularly distinctive and essential. The images are embellished from memory and imagination. John Hrehov’s goal is to find and portray the miraculous in the everyday.
John Hrehov holds an MFA from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a BFA from the Cleveland Institute of Art. He is a Professor and Head of the Department of Art and Design at Purdue University Fort Wayne (PFW). Hrehov has had numerous solo and group exhibitions throughout the country.
