Joe Nicastri is a painter, photographer, sculptor, and advocate of human rights, with work represented in a variety of public and private collections. Public collections include the Art Institute of Chicago, Cleveland Museum, Philadelphia Museum, Patrick and Beatrice Haggerty Museum of Art in Milwaukee, Clark University, Albright-Knox Art Gallery, the University of Florida, Florida International University and The Sephardic Synagogue of Turnberry. Nicastri has been represented in notable New York City galleries as OK Harris, Nancy Hoffman Gallery, Fotouhi-Kramer, Jason McCoy Inc., and the Gerald Peters Gallery located in New York and Santa Fe, Ann Nathan Gallery in Chicago, Karen Lynne Gallery in Boca Raton, FL and the Armand Bolling Fine Art Gallery, Jupiter, Florida, and currently exhibited as secondary market in Gallery Victor Chicago.
Joe Nicastri worked with the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts as advisor, juror, and notably, was the founder of NFFA’s Fellowships in Visual Arts program (FIVA). For nearly 15 years Nicastri devoted himself to the issues of the Holocaust and human rights through his artwork. Furthermore, Nicastri taught at the Miami-Dade community College Art Department for three years and at Florida International University for five years in the Fine Art Department. While at FIU, he was the Chairman of the Curriculum Committee for the College of Art and Sciences.
The Exhibition Series paintings are comprised of people, artwork and spaces that bear little resemblance to actual time, space, or place. They are more like the inner space of the mind, which can be anywhere, anytime, any place, all within the same mental moment.
